Periodontal disease is a chronic infection affecting the bone and supporting gums. Untreated periodontal disease could cause tooth loss. Research has shown that people with periodontal disease are at a higher risk of developing heart disease, which may lead to a heart attack. Research has also shown a direct correlation between diabetes and periodontal disease.

Our hygienists routinely check for gingivitis and periodontal disease, mucogingival defects, frenum attachments, recession and evaluate for gingival grafts. Under Dr. Dvarskas' supervision, our hygienists perform nonsurgical treatment like scaling, root planning, and curettage with Oraqix or local anesthesia. They also place local antibiotics. Another treatment option is Perio Protect, which delivers medicine directly under the gums. Dr Dvarskas prescribes needed pharmacueticals proven to aid in the treatment of periodontal disease. Surgical treatment is also available.
